The latest covid test requirements for visitors to Japan
It can be hard to work out what covid tests you need for international travel. Requirements for covid tests for travel to enter different destinations have been changing rapidly and without notice. Travellers without the correct certificates and proofs of vaccination may be turned away at the airport and not allowed to board their flight.
The best place to get up-to-date information about covid testing rules for people entering Japan is the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Your airline will also tell you about any test certificates you’ll need to board your flight, so keep an eye out for any messages from them.
Note that governments – including the government of Japan – have been changing entry requirements rapidly and with very little notice as they attempt to respond to changing infection rates. So, it’s a good idea to check the covid test requirements for Japan at every stage of planning your trip abroad.
Who needs a covid test to enter Japan?
You will not be allowed to board your flight to Japan if you cannot show either proof of vaccination against covid or a negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hour before your departure.
