About Hungary

Although landlocked in the centre of Europe, Hungary is divided into three parts by two rivers: the Danube and the Tisza. Hortobágy National Park is the largest area of natural grassland in Europe and home to the indigenous Hungarian Grey (Magyar Szürke), a type of cattle. There are also attempts in the park to breed aurochs, an extinct variety of giant cattle, back into existence.

top Tips for travelling to Hungary

Travellers are encouraged to visit Lake Hévíz, a large thermal lake believed to aid patients with rheumatic diseases. Those who prefer a bit more activity can go riding through the southern open plains or in the north through the forest. Star seekers should visit Hortobágy National Park at night for their dark sky reserve.
